Dr. Grace Shin is an early career investigator studying mechanisms of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy at Columbia University. She obtained her Ph.D. in Professor Brian Key’s laboratory at the University of Queensland, Australia, studying axon guidance mechanisms. After a productive first postdoc studying mechanisms of neuronal wiring, she joined Professor Wes Grueber’s laboratory to pursue her interest in understanding the etiology of neurodegenerative conditions. Dr. Shin’s research uses a multi-model approach to investigate cellular and molecular mechanisms of pathology in peripheral sensory neuropathy induced by chemotherapy. Her ongoing work focuses on understanding how sensory neurons’ health is influenced by extrinsic factors in their local environment. Dr. Shin has been recently selected as a Rising Star in Cancer Pain by the editorial board of Frontiers in Pain Research and is a recipient of 2022 Jack Griffin Award from the Peripheral Nerve Society.
