Dr. Mark Ilgen

Mark Ilgen is a clinical psychologist and a health services researcher with an interest in improving outcomes for individuals with problematic alcohol or drug use. He is currently a Research Career Scientist in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Center for Clinical Management Research in Ann Arbor, Michigan and a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan. A core focus of Mark’s work has been on understanding the relationship between pain and substance use. This research involves developing and testing psychosocial interventions to improve functioning in adults with chronic pain and substance use disorders. In addition, he has studied substance use as a risk factor for suicide and unintentional overdose.
