Prof. Hugo Leite-Almeida
Hugo Leite-Almeida, PhD is an Investigator at the ICVS/3B’s PT-Government Associate Laboratory and adjunct professor at the School of Medicine, University of Minho. His main research interest focus in the individual responses to chronic pain particularly in resistance/susceptibility factors, maladaptive responses (e.g. deficits in executive function) and in the underlying biological determinants. The group has been studying pain lateralized phenomena as surrogate readouts of anatomical relations between the painful foci at peripheral sites and affected CNS areas. HLA develops his work within a team of more than 100 neuroscientists at the ICVS Neuroscience Research Domain, including several doctoral students under his direct supervision. HLA was awarded with the 2015 International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) Early Career Research Grant.
