Prof. McGuire holds both a Clinical Psychology practitioner license and a PhD degree in psychology. His research has an important inclusive focus on pain in people with an intellectual disability, where his work has included the identification of the prevalence of chronic pain in people with intellectual disability and research on facial indicators of pain in people with cognitive impairment. His work has also included the development of cognitive-behavioral therapy interventions for people with intellectual disability.
