Professor Hans-Georg Schaible

Dr. Hans-Georg Schaible is the Director of the Institute of Physiology/Neurophysiology at the University Hospital Jena, Germany. The Institute is investigating mechanisms of pain, in particular of joint pain, ranging from work on isolated sensory neurons to pain research in patients. They have extensively explored the response properties of nociceptive joint afferents and of spinal cord neurons processing input from the joint. In the last years Dr. Schaible has established a cooperation with the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedic Surgery at the Jena University Hospital, Germany, to explore mechanisms of osteoarthritis pain in humans.
