Temugin Berta

Dr. Berta is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Cincinnati (UC), where he is studying the mechanisms that control the communication between neurons, immune and glial cells with the ultimate goal to design new therapeutic approaches for pain and itch. Dr. Berta has obtained his PhD in the laboratory of Dr. Decosterd at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, with a focus on the molecular mechanisms of neuropathic pain. As a recipient a prestigious Swiss fellowship, he then moved to Boston (BWH/Harvard Medical School) and then North Carolina (Duke University) to study in Dr. Ji laboratory the contributions of various glial cells to chronic pain. In 2016, Dr. Berta joined the Department of Anesthesiology at UC to continue to advance our understanding on glial-neuronal interactions in the nervous system and their roles in the progression of chronic itch and pain.
