Contribution of Inflammation to Colorectal Nociception

The presentation by Dr Bulmer will describe how transcriptomic data from bulk and single cell RNA sequencing of IBD patient biopsy samples and colonic nociceptors can be combined to form an interactome of nociceptor signalling profiles from the inflamed bowel. Interrogation of these signalling pathways using a combination of human tissue research and mouse genetic models which facilitate the identification of discrete nociceptor populations has enabled the validation of these signalling pathways as novel mechanisms of visceral nociception and confirmed their utility as future analgesic drug targets for the treatment of pain in IBD patients.
