Contribution of the Microbiota to Colorectal Nociception

The presentation by Nathalie Vergnolle will describe how microbiota is organized in biofilms at the colonic mucosal surface and how this organization is perturbed upon chronic nociceptive disorders of the colon. The mechanisms by which mucosal biofilms of the colon are regulated will be interrogated with a specific focus on epithelial factors, as well as the mechanisms by which colonic biofilms can impact nociceptive functions of the colon. From this, possible analgesic treatments targeting colonic microbial biofilms and their regulation will be discussed, in the context of visceral pain associated with colonic inflammation or functional colonic disorders.
