Dr. Gilles Lavigne

Gilles Lavigne is Professor in the Faculty of Dental Medicine at the Université de Montréal, Canada. He is active in clinical teaching and hospital services, and is also a sleep and pain researcher at Sacre Coeur hospital and CHUM research center. He received his DMD at the Université de Montréal, speciality training in oral medicine (stomatology) at Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA, and post-doctoral training in neurobiology and pharmacology of pain at NIH, Bethesda, Maryland USA, and he obtained his PhD at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. He was president of the Canadian Sleep Society and of the Canadian Pain Society. From 2007-2021, he holded a Canada Research Chair in Pain, Sleep & Trauma. He received a doctoral honoris causa from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He has authored over 260 scientific papers and co-edited 4 books on the interactions between sleep, pain and sleep disorders.
