Dr. Robert R. Edwards
PhD
Dr. Edwardsis a licensed clinical psychologist in the Pain Management Center at Brigham & Women’s Hospital / Harvard Medical School, USA. His research focuses on biobehavioral aspects of chronic pain. Specifically, Dr. Edwards studies individual differences in pain responses, the neurobiological mechanisms by which psychosocial processes shape those individual differences, and the harnessing of a variety of pain mechanisms to personalize and optimize interventions for individual patients with chronic pain. Some of his current work focuses on the impact of negative affect and psychosocial factors on central nervous system responses to pain, the impact of various treatments on central pain mechanisms, individual differences in pain modulation, and the design and delivery of tailored nonpharmacologic treatments for chronic pain patients in multi-site clinical trials. Recent studies from Dr. Edwards’ research group have investigated psychosocial contributors to daily pain and functioning among patients with knee osteoarthritis.
