Professor Francis J. Keefe

PhD

Dr. Keefe has been a leader in the development and refinement of behavioral protocols for training patients how to cope with, manage, and live with persistent pain. He has conducted numerous NIH funded clinical trials rigorously testing the effects of these protocols in patients with disease-related pain conditions, pain at end-of-life, and musculoskeletal pain. He has trained numerous therapists and coaches on how to tailor face-to-face behavioral treatment sessions to make them as patient-centered as possible. As a clinician and researcher at a tertiary care medical center, Dr. Keefe has had a particular interest in working with patients whose pain is persistent, intense, and highly disabling.
