As one of the few experimental psychologists worldwide that is dedicated to unraveling the neuroscience of the gut-brain axis, Sigrid Elsenbruch brings together interdisciplinary knowledge at the interface of the pain field, the neurosciences and neurogastroenterology. Her experimental work on behavioral and neural mechanisms underlying visceral pain, with a focus on paradigms into learning and memory processes especially in irritable bowel syndrome, has led to numerous publications relating to visceral perception and visceral pain.
