Yves De Koninck

PhD

The speaker has a long track record of work on nociception / sensory mechanisms and the development and use of advanced optical approaches. He dedicated his career to understanding the mechanisms underlying chronic pain and founded the Quebec Pain Research Network more than 20 years ago. For his work he received the Distinguished Career Award from the Canadian Pain Society. He also leads multiple transdisciplinary programs at the interface of photonics and neuroscience to push further our ability to probe and manipulate the brain. He founded the Neurophotonics Centre (neurophotonics.ca), where physicists, engineers, mathematicians, and biologists converge to accelerate technology development. He also organizes an annual international Neurophotonics Summer School providing hands-on training on the latest photonics approaches to neuroscience. He received the 2018 NSERC Brockhouse Canada Prize, the 2019 Emily Gray Award from the Biophysical Society and the 2020 Award for Education in Neuroscience from the Society for Neuroscience.
